WHY SHOULD I FAST?

"Why Should I Fast” (01/09/23) ‘Part 2 of 2’ Community Bible Study on Monday nights in Plymouth, MI.  God’s Word says that Pride is the opposite of Humility and fear, doubts, anxiousness are all based in Pride. Pride causes us to think we know the outcome so our decisions, thoughts, prayers and actions are based on what we think and not what God says. Faith is opposite of fear and humility is the opposite of pride. Humility means to set aside what you think is right and do what God says is right or righteous which is found in His Word. Faith without acts of obedience (humility) leads to death. Remember, His thoughts are not our thoughts and His way are not our ways.. His Ways are higher than ours and He knows the end from the beginning.

Why should we fast? In God’s Word, when Jesus humbled Himself, He fasted and prayed. When Moses humbled Himself, he fasted and prayed. Fasting and praying is always tied to humbling yourself in God’s Word. When you and I pray, do we pray desiring our outcome? Because God’s Word said that is out of pride because we fear what we or someone we love might have to go thru? God said to Pray that His Will be done which is humbling ourselves to what we want in exchange for what He wants or His Will or His plan.

For the next 21 days you can join us as we do the Daniel fast, (beginning sun down tonight, Monday January 9th) as we humble ourselves by fasting and praying for the days, weeks and months ahead as the Bible instructs us to do. Jesus fasted, Moses fasted, Church leaders throughout God’s Word called for God’s People for times of humbling themselves which always translates as fasting and prayer. When we humble ourselves, it gets rid of pride and pride is dangerous, it alway knows the outcome based on our limited knowledge and is fear based. Faith is the opposite of fear and humility and faith go hand in hand… by faith or humility to what God’s Word said, the Hall of Faith members in Hebrews Chapter 11 did what was right not knowing the outcome, having no fear and it was accounted unto them as doing what was righteous.

"Why Should I Fast” (01/02/23) ‘Part 1’ Community Bible Study on Monday nights in Plymouth, MI. There are “things” listed in God’s Word that HE hates. Proverbs 6:16 These six “things” the Lord hates, indeed, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look [the spirit that makes one overestimate himself and underestimate others]. a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that manufactures wicked thoughts and plans, (prideful person) feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who breathes out lies [even under oath], and he who sows discord among his brethren.

He hates Pride and it is looked at by God the same as these other “things” listed. Pride defined: (NOUN) 1828 Webster’s Dictionary in which the definitions are based on the meaning found in KJV of the bible…1. Inordinate (or unjustifiable) self-esteem; an unreasonable conceit of one's own superiority in talents, beauty, wealth, accomplishments, rank or elevation in office, which manifests itself in lofty airs, distance, reserve, and often in contempt of others.

Pride is the opposite of Humility… and fear, doubt, anxiousness are all based in Pride. We think we know the outcome so our decisions, thoughts and actions are based on what we think and not what God says.

So, Why should we fast? In God’s Word, when Jesus humbled Himself, He fasted and prayed. When Moses humbled Himself, he fasted and prayed. Fasting and praying is always tied to humbling yourself in God’s Word. When you and I pray, do we pray desiring our outcome? Because, God’s Word said that is out of pride because we fear what we or someone we love might have to go thru? God said to Pray that His Will be done which is humbling ourselves to what we want in exchange for what He wants or His Will or His plan for our life.

I encourage you to listen to this message (part 1 of 2) and consider joining us for a 21 day fast starting January 10th. During times of fasting, God may not do what you want to others in that time frame but He will change you. The Word says that the moment you humble yourself by fasting and praying that He hears and sees it and is working on your behalf.

Note: The lesson begins at the 27:28 mark following current events.
